Concept Introductions: A
LOT of stuff was added in Triple Trouble. Let's begin with the item
boxes. First of all this game is LOADED with items. It makes up for
shields with rocket boots, hyper flight, submarines, propeller shoes
and snowboards. Train cars, bubbles -- sometimes while playing this
game, you wonder what happened to the good old fashioned running. Also,
this game has different items for Sonic and Tails. Sonic has special
to him the rocket boots, propeller boots and a snowboard. Tails has
hyper flight and the Sea Fox. Many kickass moves were added also, like
the ability to do a spin after jumping off a spring or having Tails
hover to the ground instead of just falling. Also, Sonic's Up+A or B
peel out actually has a use and isn't just there because Tails has more
moves when we all know it can be easily replaced by the Spin Dash. For
the first few moments of his peel out, now he is invincible. Then, we
get to the special stages. First of all, to enter them you need to collect
fifty rings, jump on a special Chaos Emerald item box and then jump
into the swirling energy that appears. Then you have the possibility
of two special stages. A 2D one which involves you moving through a
strange dimension in order to beat Nack, and another that throws you
into the Tornado for some 3D coin collection. And happy enough, Sonic
AND Tails can enter the special stage (Unlike Sonic Chaos).
Concept Deductions: : While a lot of awesome
stuff was added, there were also a couple of things taken away. Like
Sonic Chaos, there are no shields. (This seems to be almost a motif
in the Game Gear Sonic games).
Storyline(s)
Dun dun dun.
You gots three peeps on yo' tail, Sonic (or tails, Tails. Ha! I am so
not funny at all). Dr. Robotnik wants the Chaos Emeralds (...yeah yeah,
so what is new? Dude, this guy has to get another hobby), but this time
not only does he already have one but he has also tricked the guardian
of the emeralds, Knuckles the Echidna, to believe that Sonic is out
to take the emeralds from him for some malicious intent or something.
NOOOO!!! Say it ain't so! Knuckles?! TRICKED?! Pfft. My 4 year old cousin
could trick that egg-laying mammalian.
New to the story,
however, is a rogue agent, Fang the Sniper, who is out to get the emeralds
for the most mundane of purposes. Profit. Finally, Sega has a character
that wants the emeralds for a viable reason. And as it so happens, although
he is supposadly slower than the rest of them (Eggman rejoice, someone
actually runs slower than you), he has that nifty little bike, named
the Marvelous Queen, that is apparently fast enough to ALWAYS beat both
Sonic and Tails to the emeralds. It's an amazing thing, really.
Sonic's (or Tails')
job is a simple one. Beat Robotnik and get his emerald, rescue Knuckles
from Robotnik's trickery and grab the emeralds before Fang can or else
the only way you are going to get them is by laying out a huge sum of
moolaa to a dealer in the black market.
Personal Criticism/Opinion:
This
is an incredibly innovative game, I think. The zones are very cleverly
designed and on a whole they are fun to play. The extra items, like
the spring or the surfboard, really do add a lot to the game, offering
loads of extra fun besides just the normal game. Going off on sort of
a tangent, though, I like to play this game a lot more as Tails and
really for only one reason. The Sea Fox. Not only does
it makes the underwater levels easier, but you also get one for the
underwater zone's boss (namely Knuckles), which makes him a hella lot
easier. Unlimited air! It's like all the perks of Mario underwater boards
in a Sonic game!
Also very cool
about this game is the 3D flight boards. They aren't overly hard and
you can get the hang of it rather quickly, and it really adds a lot.
Sort of like how awesome it is to get outside of a building when I am
done with class in college. So refreshing.
Let's see some GAMER'S PERSPECTIVE:
Replay value of Triple Trouble? Very good. The game is playable
in so many ways, the different paths you can take with each character,
the huge difference between Sonic and Tails and the incredible items,
some of which never get old.
Graphics and Layout? Very Cartoony. Without a doubt. Everything
put together very nicely though, for an 8-bit game. This is probably
one of the best done Game Gear Sonic games when it comes to style
Music & Sound Effects? ? I LOVE THE BOSS SONG IN SUNSET
PARK. It is SO catchy. And it rocks so much. Actually, the music for
this game is really fitting and I happen to like it a lot. But that
is probably because of that amazing third act.
Storyline? This
has a bit more interesting storyline than most Sonic games, probably
because of the whole Triple Trouble idea. Fang adds a lot. Although,
when I say a BIT more that is what I mean. A bit. Not much more in here
than a normal Sonic storyline, same basic premise after all.
OVERALL RATING? I rate Triple Trouble a 7.5/10
