CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Sonic (King Sonic/Arthur
if Camelot citizens insist; he’d rather they didn’t)
(On a few sites, Sonic is given the name "Olgilvie Maurice." In
the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comics, Olgilvie Maurice is Sonic's true first
and last name. However, the name Olgilvie Maurice is by no means canon
concerning the video game storyline — his name is just Sonic in the games.)
Nicknames: SegaSonic, The Blue
Blur, The Fastest Thing Alive, Blue Wind (by Soleannanian citizens), Legendary Blue Hedgehog/Master (By Shahra) Mr.
Monster Guy (Chip reserved that for the Werehog), Knave the Hedgehog (Caliburn
stuck him with this “title” for a while)
(Although known primarily as The Fastest Thing Alive in the SatAM TV
series, watch the Sonic Riders intro - Jet calls Sonic 'The Fastest Thing Alive.')
Race: Hedgehog
(Speculation: If you choose to get technical,
Sonic is most likely an African Pygmy Hedgehog, since that is the most common,
well-known species of hedgehog, not to mention is the species of hedgehog shown
in the US Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle commercials.)
Gender: Male
Age:
15
Date of birth:
June 23
(Sonic's DOB is generally confirmed as June 23rd, since that was the
release of his first video game. However, it is not canon to the video game
storyline, as his true DOB is unknown. If you find it necessary to add his DOB
nonetheless, June 23rd would be the most ideal choice.)
Birthplace: ~ Christmas Island
(it's not indisputably confirmed that this is Sonic's birthplace, but is most
likely canonical since this did after all come from a very old, videogame-based
storyline arc — if this is not true, good speculation would tell you that his
birthplace is most likely South Island)
(Speculation: Sonic's birthplace is commonly
confirmed as South Island. As convincing as that may be, it's probably false.
The original game storyline prior to Sonic the Hedgehog 1's release says
Sonic's birthplace is the small Christmas Island, but Sonic usually hung out at
South Island, which is what could have possibly sparked that misinterpretation.
His birthplace is also commonly referred to as Mobotropolis. This is canonical
if they are making profiles for the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comic's portrayal
of Sonic. But in the games, there is no Mobotropolis.)
Height: 100 centimeters (3 feet
and 3 inches or exactly 3.28 feet)
(125 centimeters/4 feet 1 inches in Werehog
form)
Weight: 35 kilograms (77.2
pounds)
(60 kilograms/132.2 pounds in Werehog form)
Ability Type: Speed (Possibly
Power in Werehog form)
Physical techniques:
(1). Spin Attack
Description: While in locomotion, Sonic can curl down and
take on a fetal position, rolling along the ground at a very high speed and
rate of torque, meant primarily for breaking through barriers, or destroying
enemies.
In-game debut: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive,
1991
(2). Spin Jump
Description: Also referred to as the "spinball
jump," Sonic is able to leap into the air and curl into a spinning,
tightly compacted ball of destruction which can destroy enemies and break
barriers.
In-game debut: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive,
1991
(3). Spin Dash
Description: Originally named the "Super Spin
Dash," Sonic is able to curl down and begin revving up, taking on a
diagonally pivoted, ovular shape. Once unleashed, Sonic blasts forward in an
acceleration roll of high speeds with limited airborne capability, meant to
break barriers or mow down enemies.
In-game debut: Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive,
1992
(4). Insta-Shield
Description: While in spinball form in midair, Sonic can
momentarily encompass his spherical physique with a shield of blue/white energy
(Presumed to be static electricity), protecting him from harm for a split
second and allowing him to strike through enemy weaknesses.
In-game debut: Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive,
1994
(5). Super Peel Out
Description: An acceleration technique where, while standing
in place, Sonic can rev his legs up at a blinding speed to the point where the
blending colors of his shoes and legs causes a figure 8 to flicker about under
him, and once unleashed, Sonic speeds forward at supersonic speeds, sometimes
accompanied by a split second of invincibility.
In-game debut: Sonic the Hedgehog CD, Sega Mega CD, 1993
(6). Jump Dash/Homing Attack
Description: While airborne in spinball form, Sonic can burst
forward in a sudden jolt of speed in a linear path enveloped in a blue aura,
and when an enemy or object is near, the jump can be used to home right into
the nearby enemy or object with extreme impact power.
In-game debut: Sonic Adventure, Sega Dreamcast, 1999 (was
also used in Sonic 3D Blast: Flickies' Island, however, was not named as such,
and can only be used if a certain powerup is retrieved)
(7). Light Dash
Description: When a trail or pattern of rings is in close proximity,
Sonic is able to zoom across the trajectory of the ring path at lightspeed,
defying gravity and collecting all of them in a flash.
In-game debut: Sonic Adventure, Sega Dreamcast, 1999
(8). Sonic Wind
Description: When enough rings are obtained, Sonic can
conjure up a powerful whirlwind of swirling blue blades of energy (presumably
wind), harming any opponents caught in it.
Appearance: Sonic Adventure 2, Sega Dreamcast, 2001
(9). Chaos Control
Description: With the use of a single Chaos Emerald, Sonic is
able to warp time and space and teleport himself to a desired destination,
freeze time, speed it up, or slow it down. However, Sonic can become massively
fatigued if he instigates Chaos Control with a fake emerald (Probably due to
having to compensate for a fake emerald’s lack of energy with his own), which
can result in fainting. When using it with another user, a portal can be
created to travel through time. Whilst in super form, Chaos Control is more
potent, to the point that he can teleport massively sized objects, assuming he
has help, of course.
In-game debut: Sonic Adventure 2, Sega Dreamcast, 2001
(10). Triangle Jump
Description: Sonic basically Jump Dashes between walls but he
can only remain rooted on a wall for a short period of time when still.
In-game debut: Sonic Heroes, Nintendo GameCube, Sony
PlayStation 2, and Microsoft Xbox, 2003
(11). Blue Tornado
Description: When in mid-air, Sonic can assume spinball form
and repeatedly follow the trajectory of a perfect circle, stirring up a substantially
powerful vortex of blue colored winds, sending anything caught in it flying up
into the air and ultimately helpless.
In-game debut: Sonic Heroes, Nintendo GameCube, Sony
PlayStation 2, and Microsoft Xbox, 2003
(12). Super Boost
Description: Quite possibly Sonic's greatest acceleration
move: at will, Sonic is able to burst forward in a blaze of blue energy and
instantly achieve supersonic speeds upon lifting his feet off the ground
without virtually any acceleration delay. However, it greatly depletes his
tension and stamina and he will need to either collect rings or perform stylish
tricks to use it again.
In-game debut: Sonic Rush, Nintendo DS, 2005
(13). Bounce Attack/Bound Jump
Description: Sonic jumps and slams down on the enemy, gaining
a bit more altitude with each bounce.
In-game debut: Sonic Advance 2, Nintendo Game Boy Advance,
2003 (was also used in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic Adventure 2, however, was
not named as such, and can only be used if a certain powerup is retrieved)
(14). Mach Speed
Description: By utilizing the blue gem in the shoes given to
him by Mr Roberto of Soleanna, Sonic can perform a very quick but temporary
dash of speed.
Only used in: Sonic the Hedgehog (aka Sonic Next), Microsoft
Xbox 360/Sony PlayStation 3, 2006
(15). Tornado
Description: By utilizing the green gem in the shoes given to
him by Mr Roberto of Soleanna, Sonic can utilize a repetitive break dance move
to create a twister of light blue wind around himself, damaging enemies in the
vicinity.
Only used in: Sonic the Hedgehog (aka Sonic Next), Microsoft
Xbox 360/Sony PlayStation 3, 2006
(16). Slow
Description: By utilizing the red gem in the shoes given to
him by Mr Roberto of Soleanna, Sonic can slow time in the area around him.
Only used in: Sonic the Hedgehog (aka Sonic Next), Microsoft
Xbox 360/Sony PlayStation 3, 2006
(17). Homing Smash
Description: By utilizing the white gem in the shoes given to
him by Mr Roberto of Soleanna, Sonic can charge a more marginally powerful
homing attack potentially indefinitely in mid-air.
Only used in: Sonic the Hedgehog (aka Sonic Next), Microsoft
Xbox 360/Sony PlayStation 3, 2006
(18). Gun Drive
Description: By utilizing the sky blue gem in the shoes given
to him by Mr Roberto, Sonic can throw the sky blue gem then immediately leap
towards the thrown gem's location with incredible speed and accuracy.
Only used in: Sonic the Hedgehog (aka Sonic Next), Microsoft
Xbox 360/Sony PlayStation 3, 2006
(19). Scale
Description: By utilizing the purple gem in the shoes given
to him by Mr Roberto of Soleanna, Sonic can minimize his body size from 100cm
to only a couple of inches tall. He can perform infinite jumps and has greater
running speed.
Only used in: Sonic the Hedgehog (aka Sonic Next), Microsoft
Xbox 360/Sony PlayStation 3, 2006
(20). Thunder Guard
Description: By utilizing the yellow gem in the shoes given
to him by Mr Roberto of Soleanna, Sonic can project an electrified shield
around himself that protects him from damage once and attracts nearby rings.
Only used in: Sonic the Hedgehog (aka Sonic Next), Microsoft
Xbox 360/Sony PlayStation 3, 2006
(21). Sonic Boom
Description: Sonic cuts loose at his true, would famous speed
for a few moments, busting through the sound barrier and anyone else who gets
in his way.
Appearance Sonic Rivals, Sony PlayStation Portable, 2006
(22). Speed Break
Description: Similar to his Super Boost, Sonic can dash
forward at tremendous speeds enveloped in flames, surpassing large distances
and damaging enemies in his way. Shahra's power is needed for this to work.
Only used in: Sonic and the Secret Rings, Nintendo Wii, 2007
(23). Time Break
Description: Similar to Chaos Control, Sonic can slow time to
an extremely slow crawl, enabling easy passage of obstacles. Sonic needs
Shahra's power to enable this feat.
Only used in: Sonic and the Secret Rings, Nintendo Wii, 2007
(24). Axe Kick
Description: Sonic Spin Dashes towards an opponent, slamming
into them before landing on top of the foe with, as indicated, a powerful axe
kick.
Only used in: Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood,
Nintendo DS, 2008
(25). Whirlwind
Description: Sonic spins around his foes with enough force to
make a tornado, causing major damage to anyone caught in it.
Only used in: Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, Nintendo
DS, 2008
(26). Soul Surge
Description: When wielding the legendary sword Caliburn,
Sonic can focus his will into the blade and deliver a quick strike upon any foe
in his sights.
Only used in: Sonic and the Black Knight, Nintendo Wii, 2009
Abilities and aptitude:
(1). Sonic the Hedgehog really IS the fastest
thing alive! Sonic can run at supersonic speeds in high excess of 760 miles an
hour in normal conditions. This amazing feat gives him the ability to break the
sound barrier with ease and his legs are configured in such a way that he can
also run backwards. But Sonic's slow walking movements are awkward and
clumsy-looking, perhaps due to his almost constant speeding-around.
(2). His extraordinary speed statistic promotes
exceptional and elegant acrobatic and gymnastic skills, agility, and
adroitness. He also has fantastic reflexes as well, possibly as a result of his
outstanding acrobatic/gymnastic abilities.
(3). Sonic's resilience in his legs and heart is off the map. He can run for days and days at top speed before showing hints of fatigue and even then, he recovers rather fast. He also has astounding resilience to severe blows (especially surprising given his diminutive stature) and it takes a tremendous amount of damage infliction for him to go down for the count. This is especially true once he’s set his mind on a goal; only the most life threatening injuries will stop him from pressing onward. Sonic also seems to have an outstanding immune system as well, capable of recovering from illness so quickly that it makes one wonder how he can become sick in the first place. He also seems to be able to eat rotten or mouldy food without any problems. He doesn't seem to like doing this mind you.
(4). Sonic has a very stable state of mind coupled with incredible will power. The strength of his willpower is such that it is very hard to impossible for demonic entities to influence his mind or possess him. His good heart and intrinsically good character protects him from submitting the dark thoughts or influences or being at the mercy of malevolent forces (Dark Gaia, Excalibur's Scabbard). Though not entirely foolproof (Immobility-induced mental instability and the Ifrit mind-controlling him in Sonic Rivals 2 ring a bell?), this proves to be a trait of immense importance in times of immense stress and danger.
Transformations/Alternate forms:
(1). Has the ability to use the power of the
Chaos Emeralds and transform into Super Sonic, where Sonic's fur turns to a
glossy golden yellow, his eyes turn ruby red, at least four of his six cranial
quills stand up on end (sometimes all of them, depending on his movement), and
he is many times as fast and powerful along with the ability to fly. He can
also make other characters turn into their super forms (If they have one) by
imbuing them with the Emeralds' powers. Super Sonic is reliant on rings to
sustain this form and, in some cases, even activate it. Maintaining this form
even with rings consumes extreme amounts of energy and Sonic can only sustain
it for relatively short periods of time. Lastly, Sonic can use this form when
riding Extreme Gear, though it’s surprisingly difficult to do so, as it seems
to have more drawbacks than benefits.
(2). Has the ability to utilize the powers of
three of the seven World Rings (The red ring of rage, the purple ring of
sadness and the green ring of hatred) and possibly a degree of Shahra's
influence (He is possibly possessed by Shahra's spirit when in this form) to
transform into Darkspine Sonic, where Sonic's fur turns to a purplish indigo
color, his pupils, irises, shoes, gloves and mouth disappear (How he talks is a
mystery), his muzzle, inner ears and stomach skin become a sickly-looking grayish white color,
he gains 4 large glowing yellow rings on his wrists and ankles and all six of
his cranial spines point completely downwards (Similar to Amy's or Knuckles'
spines) but are known to be blown backwards by wind and/or movement. Darkspine Sonic also gains
white band-like fur markings on each wrist, across the top and soles of his bare feet and two parallel
white lines from the end of his top spine and down his forehead, stopping where
they meet the eyes. Two parallel white lines also appear on the top of his
lower middle cranial spine. Darkspine Sonic has a fiery orange aura and has extraordinary destructive power in exchange for low defense. He can
turn his enemies powers against them as well as follow up with extremely
powerful kicks, chops, slaps and punches. He also has the ability to charge his
soul gauge merely by spinning in place and it increases at an extremely slow
rate by itself otherwise.
(4). When under the influence of Dark Gaia’s
power and also possibly the corrupted Chaos Emeralds, Sonic transforms into a Werehog at night. In this form, Sonic is a bit
taller, a bit heavier and a LOT hairier. His fur gets darker and his skin turns
pale blue though it tends to get a grayish tinge in different lighting conditions. While his legendary speed is pretty much gone, it is replaced by massive
strength and power. His powerful arms can also stretch to great lengths,
allowing Sonic to scale great heights and distances.
(3). When channeling the full force of his
indomitable will into the sacred sword Caliburn, combined with the three sacred
swords, Arondight, Galatain and Laevatein, the sword will change into his true form, Excalibur,
changing Sonic himself into Excalibur-Sonic. Sonic gains a full body set of
golden armor engraved with ornate markings and a red cape on his waist. With this armor, Sonic gains
incredible power over Excalibur and can cut through anything, enhancing his
Soul Surge attacks. He also has the ability to fly and trails golden stars in his wake. Unfortunately, he is not invincible in this form; while his
ring supply does not drain over time, it can still be beaten out of him.
(Hyper Sonic, while interesting, has yet to be fully confirmed as canon.)
Hobbies and talents:
(1). Has a secret hobby as a Disc Jockey.
(2). Talented vocalist.
(3). Sonic is quite a good
break-dancer/Capoeira practitioner, enough to incorporate the style into his
close-combat techniques.
(4). Excellent skills in piloting, driving and
waterbike surfing.
(5). Very experienced in a variation of sports
such as boarding and surfing (he’s skilled enough to keep from bailing) and
other recreational activities like grinding.
(6). Highly adept with all types of Extreme Gear.
For that matter, he's also a quick learner, considering how fast he caught on.
(7). Has a great sense of acuity and calmness
in the face of dangerous and/or pressing situations.
(8). Though he can't compare to Knuckles or
Shadow, Sonic is surprisingly physically strong in his arms/upper body.
(9). It seems Sonic’s quite the swordsman, applying his own high-speed flair with devastatingly unorthodox results.
(10). Sonic also appears to be an excellent gunner and can use the Tornado's on-board weaponry with amazing accuracy.
Weaknesses:
(1). Highly impatient. Sonic has a awful habit of walking (or in his case, running) blindly into dangerous situations without thinking them through, which has put him in great danger more than once. Usually though, his quick thinking and speed gets him out of trouble.
(2). Cannot swim. He sinks like a stone in water, probably mainly due to his great body weight for his size and narrow limbs (Unlikely considering Knuckles can swim with his similar body proportions) or likely due to the possibility listed below.
(3). Possibly aquaphobic. Sonic might be terribly afraid of water, but there is no absolute solid evidence of this.
(4). Sonic is slowed down considerably as a
Werehog and his temper is even worse to the point where he'll throw childish temper tantrums when sufficiently annoyed. Needless to say, this can greatly skewer his attention at times.
- Coarse and close-lying blue fur
- Peach skin muzzle and inner ears
- Long and thin blue-furred legs that broaden
below the knees. Capable of allowing Sonic to perform some extremely impressive
jumps and leaps and powerful kicks
- Peach skin broad hands and blunt, thick
fingers with no nails- Peach skin upright-oval marking on tummy/chest
- Very thin and wiry peach skin covered arms.
They are MUCH stronger than they initially appear to be.
- Large vibrant eyes with emerald green irises,
black pupils and glassy white sclera
- Blue eyelids with a thickish black lash that
extends amongst the bottom of the top eyelid.
- 6 elongated, contoured pliable quills coming
out of the back of his head that appear to be consisted of many thousands of
smaller spines, and two much less pliable, slightly shorter arching quills on
his back. The head quills are known to stiffen when Sonic is shocked, afraid,
very excited or particularly annoyed
- Two triangular, constantly alert and perked
ears that have some degree of movement. They slant slightly backwards when
Sonic is running and slant forwards or sideways greatly when Sonic is asleep or
unhealthy.
- Long black nose with no apparent nostrils
- Small, slightly arched tail
- Broad blue furred feet with no distinct
separate toes
Werehog:
- Coarse
and flared out navy blue fur
- Pale
blue skin muzzle and fluffy inner ears
- Long
and thin blue-furred legs that broaden below the knees
- Pale
blue skin broad hands and blunt, thick fingers with sharp claws. The wrists
have write markings on the fur
- Pale
blue upright-oval marking on tummy/chest
- Very
thick and powerful arms capable of stretching
- Large
vibrantly intimidating eyes with emerald green irises, black pupils and glassy
white sclera
- Blue
eyelids with a thickish black lash that extends amongst the bottom of the top
eyelid.
- 6
elongated, contoured pliable and furry quills tipped in grey coming out of the
back of his head that appear to be quite pliable and two much less pliable,
slightly shorter arching quills on his back
- Two
triangularly curved, outward-facing constantly alert and perked ears that have
some degree of movement. They slant slightly backwards when Sonic is running
and slant forwards or sideways greatly when Sonic is asleep or unhealthy.
- Long
black nose with no apparent nostrils
- Small,
slightly arched tail
- Broad
blue furred feet with no distinct separate toes
Attire:
- A pair of white gloves with large, sock-like
cuffs. They appear to be composed of a thick cotton-like material.
- A pair of red sneakers with a white strap,
metallic golden buckles that fasten the strap in place on the outer side of the
shoe, and gray, special resin soles with an impossibly high friction tolerance
- White socks (Unconfirmed, the baggy white
"cuffs" may be just part of the shoe, but we'll perhaps never know
this for certain)
- A spare pair of custom made SOAP Scorchers
with reinforced soles for grinding
- When riding Extreme Gear, he occasionally
wears a pair of silver framed glasses with green lenses and a ring on each hand
just beneath the cuff of each glove, each made from an unknown grey metal.
Curiously, the glasses are never seen over his eyes. He also wears a pair of
red and white shoes with yellow accents and grey soles.
- Once wore an Ark of the Cosmos on one of his
wrists. This particular Ark was primarily blue in color and enabled Sonic to
manipulate gravity as he pleased. From utilizing gravity to make sharp turns,
repelling enemies and slowing his rate of descent to even utilizing gravity in
order to perform long and fast burst of acceleration whilst levitating.
- Once wore a gold ring on the middle finger of
one hand. This ring was the contract between Sonic and Shahra the ring genie
and he could request a wish of the ring genie simple by rubbing it. It is
engraved with symbols that bestow good luck upon its wearer. It was once
shattered beyond repair but was recreated with one of Sonic's wishes of Erazor
Djinn.
- Once had an arrow of flame embedded in the
upper corner of his chest. This flame arrow was inflicted by Erazor Djinn and
served as a visual representation of Sonic's life force, its curse ensuring
instant death once it burned out. However, it disappeared after Sonic
transformed into Darkspine Sonic.
- Once possessed a metal gauntlet with a yellow collar on his right hand. This was necessary for wielding a blade.
- Owns an engraved silver bracelet with a green orb that fits over the glove cuff of one of his wrists. This bracelet was recieved from 'Chip'/Light Gaia
Werehog:
- A pair of red sneakers with a metal, 3-spiked
strap on the outer side of the shoe, and gray soles with sharp cleats
Items & weapons:
(1). Light Shoes
Description: They look like Sonic's regular kicks, but
adorned with a special attachment. At first, these shoes were required to
perform the Lightspeed Dash. Nowadays, Sonic has learned to perform the
maneuver regardless.
Appearance: Sonic Adventure, Sega Dreamcast, 1999
(2). Crystal Ring
Description: A cyan colored bracelet that fits over the cuff
of the glove on Sonic's right wrist. It shortened the time needed to gather
power for the Light Dash/Light Attack.
Appearance: Sonic Adventure, Sega Dreamcast, 1999
(3). Ancient Light
Description: A very mysterious ball of light with tiny orbs
of light orbiting it that is absorbed into Sonic's body when he gains it. This
lets Sonic perform the Light Attack on nearby enemies after charging a Light
Dash, a powerful and fast attack on enemies in the vicinity. Its accuracy is
questionable, however, and Sonic has to be careful not to end up somewhere he
shouldn't when coming out of the attack.
Appearance: Sonic Adventure, Sega Dreamcast, 1999
(4). Bounce Bracelet
Description: A light grey metal bracelet with a constantly
blinking green light. This lets Sonic bounce and bound on stuff as if he had
the Water Shield from Sonic 3. He doesn’t really need it anymore.
Appearance: Sonic Adventure 2, Sega Dreamcast, 2001
(5). Flame Ring
Description: A gold bracelet with a vermillion colored gem
embedded into it that glows orange rhythmically. This let Sonic perform the
Fire Somersault, enshrouding his somersaulting form in a firey aura and
allowing him to bust open metal containers.
Appearance: Sonic Adventure 2, Sega Dreamcast, 2001
(6). Magic Gloves
Description: A trio of silver, blue and yellow objects that
attach to the top of Sonic's Bounce Bracelet. This lets Sonic play Pokémon by
trapping a robot in a ball. Then he can kill two bots with one stone by
throwing the robot at another. An amusing tactic.
Appearance: Sonic Adventure 2, Sega Dreamcast, 2001
(7). Caliburn
Description: In Arthurian times, this sacred sword was said
to be the greatest of all, particularly when in its legendary form, Excalibur. The blade seems to have a
mind of its own, and has no problem speaking it, much to Sonic’s chagrin as he
and Caliburn tend to bicker constantly. Sonic steadily gained enough
proficiency to use the sword in 3 styles: Paladin (Attack-based), Cavalier
(Speed-based) and Knight (balanced).
Vehicle(s):
(1). The Tornado
Description: A red, vintage-style biplane. How Sonic acquired
such a craft is unknown, though it is rarely used by Sonic anymore, since his
best friend Tails has assumed self-proclaimed ownership of it. The Tornado is
18.7ft in length (5.7m), has a 12.1ft (3.7m) wingspan, is 6.9ft (2.1m) in height, its primary engine is
a 480HP, 12-Cylinder, air-cooled Twin Star and the secondary engine that is
installed by Tails is two custom booster engines. The Tornado's maximum speed
is 450km per hour if using the primary engine by itself and an astonishing 340
meters per second if both engines are used at the same time. Tails seems to
have given it a major upgrade recently (including, but not limited to, a rear
gunner on the tail for Sonic to fire from if needed), bringing it on par with
the Tornado 2. Sonic can be seen flying it with great proficiency when Tails
isn't around to do so.
In-game debut: Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive,
1992
(2). The Cyclone
Description: A red sports car, though it is very rarely used
since he really doesn't need it. It was only used in the Chaos Grand Prix
racing circuit. The Cyclone had good acceleration and a high top speed but its
cornering ability is poor.
Appearance: Sonic Drift, Sega Game Gear, 1994
(3). Blue Star II
Description: A blue and yellow Extreme Gear air board with
two boosters in the back. Sonic’s first Blue Star board was destroyed by Wave
before he could finish the last race of the EX World Grand Prix, so Tails built
him this one. The Blue Star II has abysmal cornering ability but a high top
speed. It was remade later on by Tails simply named the Blue Star again with
sleeker curves that attest to the fox’s improvements.
Appearance: Sonic Riders, Nintendo GameCube/Sony PlayStation
2/Microsoft Xbox, 2006
(4). Wave Cyclone
Description: A waterbike with a primarily blue color scheme
that was built by Tails from blue and iron materials and upgraded with various
other materials. It's upgrading included greater boost capacity and improved speed. The Wave Cyclone was presumably left in Blaze's world.
Personality details:
Sonic the
Hedgehog is like the wind: unpredictable and is always at some other place and
never congregates in one location for too long. Sonic is a carefree, easy
going, and laidback young hedgehog who likes nothing more than to just venture
across the endless boundaries of the world and enjoy his prized freedom. This
is probably why he isn't too interested in dating.
With an attitude just as fickle as his urge for adventure, as well as an
ego as big as South Island, Sonic is sassy and quick-witted with a passion for
just enjoying life, leaving the past behind, and to always move forward without
regrets. He's smooth, cool and popular, and tends to let this get to his head
from time to time, possessing a somewhat narcissistic tongue. However, he is
quite a gentleman and possesses good manners and an air of
politeness...well...when he feels like it, anyway. He usually just sees such
forms of etiquette as a bore. Despite his occasional short-temperedness and snideyness, he's an extremely kind and benevolent being and always gives it his all in bringing happiness and salvation to distressed and troubled people.
This is because he can’t stand being restricted by certain standards if
he can’t help it. Sonic lives and dies by his own rules rather than the
standards of those around him or even for the sake of heroism, living his life
exactly how he wants to live it. However, when Sonic gets riled up over
injustice, oppression, or the despair and sadness of another, his vague sense
of heroism kicks into overtime and the results could be devastating since his
temper can at times be just as bad and as short as his patience. A rarely seen
trait otherwise, this is most noticeable when he is up against another one of
his arch nemesis', Dr. Robotnik's nefarious schemes for global conquest.
As a
Werehog, Sonic’s personality remains unchanged for the most part, but, as one
may no doubt assume, his temper is even worse, making him more prone to feral
outbursts of rage, promising doom for his foes.
Overall,
Sonic just does whatever the hell he wants when he wants and however he wants
to do it. Screw anyone who has a problem with it.
Historical biography:
Like his
personality suggests, Sonic the Hedgehog is a guy who never focuses on the
past. He always moves forward; physically, and mentally. So it doesn't take an
IQ of 300 to figure out that Sonic's history is a mystery to everyone. Very
little is known, but what is known will be told here at Concept:
"Mobius".
Although Sonic was born at Christmas Island, Sonic's favorite place to
go was South Island. It was one of the few regions that contained ring portals
that gave access to the different dimensions that held very special and
omnipotent gems known as the Chaos Emeralds. Although, he more than likely was
never concerned with any of that.
Sonic liked nothing more than to just lay
back on the beach of South Island and listen to music. Sonic loved rock music
the most and was even singer in his own rock band as a vocalist. He loved
hanging out with his friends, but he enjoyed just as much to be alone and
wander the lands aimlessly, in endless search for adventure.
Sonic would be enjoying himself were it not for the endless amount of
wicked plots to take over the world that his arch nemesis, Dr. Robotnik (or as
he is more commonly addressed, Dr. Eggman) had up his sleeve. But in the end,
Sonic always managed to outsmart Dr. Robotnik, earning celebrity status across
the entire world, revered as a hero and loved by all. All was well until Eggman
came up with his best plan yet upon hearing the stories of the Chaos Emeralds…
Dr. Robotnik vowed to get the Chaos Emeralds and soon built a giant
metal fortress, and constructed an army of various types of robots to go out
and search for the Chaos Emeralds. He knew those emeralds could be used to make
devastating nuclear weapons or things of the like. They'd be perfect for taking
over the world. But Sonic, ever the hero, stood up against Dr. Robotnik and
eventually managed to defeat the robots and Eggman; cornering them in the fortress
they came from, and told them never to come back out. Eggman sulked in defeat,
but still vowed that he would get the Chaos Emeralds and exact his revenge on
Sonic.

Greatest friend(s): Himself, Miles
"Tails" Prower, Amy Rose, Knuckles the Echidna, Cream the Rabbit
& Cheese and Blaze the Cat.
Other friend(s): Big the Cat,
Vector the Crocodile, Espio the Chameleon, Charmy Bee, Mighty the Armadillo,
Ray the Flying Squirrel, Shadow the Hedgehog, Rouge the Bat, Silver the Hedgehog (when the
guy’s actually friendly), Shahra the Genie of the Ring, Marine the Raccoon, Shade
the Echidna, Chip, Professor Pickle, Merlina and the Knights of Camelot’s Round
Table.
Rival(s): Metal Sonic, Shadow the Hedgehog,
Knuckles the Echidna (however, they're usually on good terms) and
Jet the Hawk (as far as Extreme Gear is concerned).
Enemy(s): Dr. Ivo
"Eggman" Robotnik, Fang the Sniper, Metal Sonic and Eggman Nega.
Likes: His freedom and
independence, the beauty of nature, venturing across the globe to random
regions, music, sitting back and chilling/sleeping anywhere whether it be at a
beach or on a tree branch (Sonic is surprisingly lazy when given the chance),
books (Considering he endeavored to save the Arabian Nights with one of his
three wishes from Erazor Djinn), but most of all: running or anything to do
with speed. For a clue on Sonic's environmental tastes, he seems to like
tropical and highly industrialized cities and the ocean (Odd given his general
distaste of water) -- anything with movement, basically.
Dislikes: The word 'slow,'
oppression, injustice, sadness (especially if it’s one-sided), boring theme
parks, seeing others cry, anything that involves water (a bath or shower is as
far as he'll go when not chasing down Eggman), being subjected to immobility or
being cooped up somewhere for prolonged periods. DON'T put him on a cruise ship
or maniacal and stir-crazy behavior may begin to manifest itself in him since Sonic
can't stand prolonged separation from large and open places to run. He hates
losing, or waiting on anyone or anything. Amy's Piko Piko hammer and being
glomped are also annoyances. Surprisingly, he isn't very fond of racing,
either. As far as he's concerned, he's the fastest, so why bother? (That
changes if Eggman's involved or his reputation is on the line.) He also
dislikes the use of firearms. Lastly, Sonic hates being referred to by formal
titles such as "Mr" or "Master" or being denoted as inferior (Caliburn branding him a Knave ring any bells?), despite Cream's insistence
of the former.
Favorite food(s): Chili dogs and Chili Dog variations sold by Don Fachio's Hot Dog Vendors. He seems to have a great liking for fast food like Fried Chicken and Burgers if the excellent EXP values he gets from fast food-like consumables in Sonic Unleashed is something to go by, nutritional content aside. (Sonic's fondness for Chili
Dogs became canon upon the introduction of the official Sonic Advance 3
Strategy Guide [the Japanese one] when it mentioned Sonic's love for Chili
Dogs.)
Favorite color(s): It might be
red since his shoes are red, along with the Cyclone car he drove in the Sonic
Drift games, and of course, the Tornado was red. Though, it could be blue as
well, considering his ego.
Occupation: Unemployed.
Hero of the world isn’t really a compensating position, anyway.
GAME INFORMATION
Franchise name: Sonic the Hedgehog
Original purpose: Mascot of SEGA (Service Games)
enterprises to stand up against their rival Nintendo's mascot, Mario, and to be
a pop culture video game character; Main character of the series and reluctant
love interest for Amy Rose
Current purpose: Hasn't changed. Although, Sega has
now gone third-party, is devoted to software, and merged with the Sammy
corporation. Not only that, but Sonic games are released mostly on Nintendo
consoles, ending the rivalry between the two companies.
Date of first promotion/presence in the industry: The first promotions of Sonic the Hedgehog began in late 1990, where an image of Sonic was depicted on the side of the tour bus of the Japanese band, Dreams Come True. His first official promotion was at the United States of America in his first video game, Sonic the Hedgehog, released on June 23rd, 1991 on the Sega Genesis (called the Sega Mega Drive in other nations).
Years in service: 18 years and still going…
Impact on series: He’s the titular star of this
franchise and the driving force behind it. Whatever game isn’t centered completely
around him in every single way tends to be looked upon with great disdain for
various reasons.
Original Designer: Naoto Ohshima
Design process: SEGA's Sonic the Hedgehog was
designed for the games by one Naoto Ohshima of Sonic Team. Sonic was the very
first character of the franchise to be declared an actual Sonic character. The
design process took several months and after many designs, the choices were
eventually narrowed down to an armadillo and a hedgehog. Yuji Naka suggested a
hedgehog in the first place, while the armadillo can be assumed suggested
because it was another animal that could roll up into a ball, which is what
they were looking for regarding the gameplay premise. Eventually, the hedgehog
was chosen and was designed as Sonic by Naoto Ohshima. Key members of Sega’s US
branch, under initial scrutiny from Japan, remodeled Sonic’s look to the
hedgehog we were introduced to.
Possible design inspirations: It's possible Sonic was not
originally created by Sonic Team. Although his appearance and design was made
by them, the name and concept of a blue, speedy hedgehog named Sonic dates back
to the 40's. Mary Garnet was a popular writer of children's books at the time
and her husband was a test pilot for the United States Air Force. Her husband
had an operation going on, which he named Project "Blue Gale." The
purpose? To build the first plane that could break the sound barrier.
Mary always called her
husband "hedgehog," since when he took his flight helmet off, his
hair appeared to be all spiky, resembling the quills on a hedgehog's back. This
name stuck and it inspired Mary to decorate his flight jacket with a blue
hedgehog mascot. Since he was so busy with the military, it was up to Mary to
raise their daughter Sherry, to whom Mary would always tell stories. Oddly
enough, the hero of the stories was always a blue hedgehog named Sonic. They'd
tell about how Sonic would always save the world and protect innocent people
and small animals from evil men. These stories were used as the basis for the
video game story of Sonic the Hedgehog.
On October 14th, 1947, General
Charles Elwood Yeager (AKA Chuck Yeager) became the first man to break the
sound barrier with the rocket-powered X-1 fighter plane, earning the dub The
Fastest Man Alive. But, a very little known event occurred earlier that same
day. It has been lost in record books as far as anyone knows, but it involved
how another pilot, named Hedgehog, had set out to break the record himself. He
came close, but his plane began to vibrate and eventually exploded into a
fireball. A tragedy that was shadowed by the historic event that took place
afterwards. Nobody remembers the name of the brave pilot, but veterans of the
airbase still remember the emblem of Sonic the blue hedgehog.
