CHARACTER INFORMATION

Name: Big

Nicknames: N/A

Race: Cat
(Speculation: If you choose to get technical, Big is most likely a simple Tabby Cat as a result of Sonic Team's habit to keep things simple. BUT, if you want to get truly technical: Big's size, laidback attitude, raccoon-like stripe pattern, long ears, and bushy tail match most accurately with the very famous Maine Coon breed.)

Gender: Male

Age: 18 years of age

Date of birth: Unknown

Birthplace: ~ Mystic Ruins (?)
(This is uncertain. It is *probably* his birthplace since there is direct evidence that he's been there all his life in Sonic Adventure.)

Height: 200 centimeters (6 feet and 6 inches)

Weight: 280 kilograms (616 pounds… how did Cream lift him and Amy in Sonic Heroes??)

Ability Type: Power

Physical techniques:
(1). Lure Attack.
Description: Big can beat most of his enemies into submission by striking them with his fishing rod. It doesn't have much range however.
In-game debut: Sonic Adventure, Sega Dreamcast, 1999

(2). Fire Combination
Description: When in power formation, Big rears back and swings his rod in a slashing motion. When his teammates are in spinball form, a Fire Knock will launch them at unsuspecting foes. If enough power is attained, Big can finish his enemies off with his patented Big Finish, lighting his choice of lures (a bobber, life preserver or spiked ball) on fire and spinning it around in a wide 360° radius.
Appearance: Sonic Heroes, Nintendo GameCube, SonyPlayStation 2/Microsoft Xbox, 2003

(3). Jump Attack
Description: Big can body slam down on top of enemies with his great mass, damaging them.

(1). Very powerful; able to lift large objects such as small cars.

(2). Capable swimmer.

Hobbies and talents:

(2). Big has a very good sense of smell.

Weaknesses:

(1). Very slow and a poor jumper, mainly due to his great weight.

(2). Large size makes him an easy target.

Personality details:

Many would think that Big is just a lazy dimwit because of his size, vacant facade, and dull-witted voice. In fact, many do. But many don't realize that he has personally made a devotion to just laying back and enjoying a carefree life. All in all, Big's just a simpleton. His morals are basic and his social repertoire is based around nothing but very generic common sense. Big's worse nightmare is a life full of hassles and one that moves at a fast pace.

His routine consists of no more than fishing with his best buddy Froggy (an actual animal frog) and sleeping at his hut in the jungle. He tries to avoid going to cities, but on occasion, Froggy goes missing and this requires Big to leave and go on an adventure: something he surprisingly doesn't seem to care for too much. Although, his voice sounds mentally-challenged, he is a sweetheart and is very friendly and easy-going. It takes an awful lot to actually anger this gentle giant...but if it happens, look out as he's quite sesnsitive. There is nothing complicated about Big… he just enjoys the simple things!

Historical biography:

Big has always enjoyed a carefree life in the jungle with his best buddy, Froggy. He never intended to venture around or lead a huge business or anything too fast-paced. But unfortunately, life deals wild cards, and thanks to a little run-in with Chaos, Big had been dealt the motherload of a hand.

On a lone night, Big was just sleeping in the Mystic Ruins jungle as normal, and Froggy was lying on his enormous belly. That's until a large crash lured the amphibian over as he was overcome by a mysterious blue puddle, growing an odd tail in the process. Big points this out to Froggy, but totally uninterested, the Frog leaps over to Big's hut and gobbles up his Chaos Emerald, or as Big calls it, his lucky charm. That puddle? Chaos. The Tail? Chaos'. It seems when Froggy was taken by the liquid, he grew Chaos' now-missing tail, and thus became possessed by the water spirit, running away from Big.

Froggy was his only friend at the time, so Big wouldn't take that sitting down. He took his fishing rod, geared up and set out for an adventure that consisted of no more than fishing for Froggy each time he happened to encounter the amphibian. In the end, Big eventually managed to snatch Froggy after nearly 5 tries. However, with the last retrieval of the frog came a final capturing from Chaos, as the liquid monster gobbled up the frog and the Chaos Emerald, not only gaining power from the emerald but also getting his missing tail back. But after many casts of his trusty lure, Big finally managed to snatch Froggy for the final time. It was time to go home. Sure, this was Big's first major adventure, but to be honest, he wouldn't mind if it was his last. After snatching the crashed Tornado 2 aboard the Egg Carrier, Big and Froggy flew home to the jungle.

Since then, Big still tries his best to maintain his generally easygoing daily routine, but the constant skirmishes he gets himself into involving his amphibian escapee seem to always stop him from just sitting back and fishing! Oh well. At least he's got friends to keep him company.

Enemy(s): N/A (Probably Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik, but Big's too peaceful to go quite that far unprovoked.)

Dislikes: The hustles and bustles of the fast-paced real world and anybody who threatens Froggy or his friends.

Personal character analysis/commentary (by Nuclear Envoy):

Big the Cat could be classified as a filler character for when Sonic Adventure was made. His story was the least relevant and even today, his fame is low in the ranks. Why, is unknown. I actually like Big! He's cool and laidback in a way that actually reflects how Sonic is cool and laidback. And, out of all of them, Big is probably the most original. But kids and teens these days gotta have some flamboyancy or level of "coolness" in the characters: thus, Big's low level of appeal. That...and fishing is heavily looked down upon in a Sonic game, but whatever.

Normally, people wouldn't find a simple-minded cat of such massive proportions and a dull-witted voice real interesting. What Big mostly has going for him as far as personality goes is that his personality is well-justified since he simply wants to live an easy life and is not used to any of the more intricate routines of others. His personality is admirable because he just wants to enjoy life and live it calmly and quietly (like how it should be lived) while he still can. Why fans find, oh, let's say… Shadow's personality more appealing is beyond me. It's easier to find fans of Ray the Flying Squirrel than it is of this poor guy. Yet, oddly enough, he has still lived strong in the series. This is probably of Sonic Team's own will than fan demand. Sonic Team sees Big as a requirement, so it seems. I'm glad if they keep him, since it will even out the cast a bit.

Unfortunately, considering how Big doesn't like going on adventures too much (which inflicts huge damage of his potential in future titles), and his low level of appeal, he might just be doomed to somehow wobbling onto the road to Scrapville. Then again, you never know… ya just never know.
