CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Metal Sonic
Nicknames:
Metal, Metalla
Inventory
classification: Mechanical doppelganger of Sonic the Hedgehog. Metal
Sonic is the 3rd innovation involving the creation of a metal duplicate of a
living being, and has an unknown inventory identification number.
(Speculation: A few sources have
once stated that Metal Sonic is E-59. This is more than likely fanmade,
though.)
Gender:
N/A, robot — has the shape, mannerisms and
(formerly) voice of a male, not to mention is based off of one.
Age: N/A (robots don't age); was created at the time when Eggman tried to take
over the Little Planet (also known as Miracle Planet).
Date of
creation: Unknown
Place
of creation: Metallic Madness Zone on Little Planet? This is
unconfirmed, officially.
Height:
100 centimeters (3 feet and 3 inches)
(Speculation: Metal Sonic's
original height given in Sonic CD is 765.4 millimeters, which is 2.5 feet. But
that was when Sonic CD was released, which is when Sonic was also shorter.
Metal Sonic's 'new' height was official confirmed to be 100cm/3'03'' by his
profile at SEGA of Japan's SONIC CHANNEL website.)
Weight: 125.2 kilograms (275.4 pounds)
Ability
Type: Speed
(Since this is the type of the
hedgehog he is based off of, this makes sense.)
Physical
techniques:
(1). Spin Attack
Description: While in locomotion, Metal Sonic can curl down and take on a
fetal position, rolling along the ground at a very high speed and rate of
torque, meant primarily for breaking through barriers, or destroying enemies.
In-game debut: Sonic Adventure 2 2-P, Sega Dreamcast, 2001
(2). Spin Jump
Description: Also referred to as the "spinball jump," Metal
Sonic is able to leap into the air and curl into a spinning, tightly compacted
ball of destruction which can destroy enemies and break barriers.
In-game debut: Sonic Adventure 2 2-P mode, Sega Dreamcast, 2001
(3). Spin Dash
Description: Originally named the "Super Spin Dash," Metal
Sonic is able to curl down and begin revving up, taking on a diagonally
pivoted, ovular shape. Once unleashed, Metal Sonic blasts forward in an
acceleration roll of high speeds with limited airborne capability, meant to
break barriers or mow down enemies.
In-game debut: Sonic Adventure Deluxe: Director's Cut, Nintendo GameCube,
2003
(4). Homing Attack
Description: While airborne in spinball form, Metal Sonic can home right
into a nearby enemy or object with extreme impact power in a linear path
enveloped in a light blue colored aura.
In-game debut: Sonic Adventure 2 2-P mode, Sega Dreamcast, 2001
(5). Electric Attack
Description: While in slow movement or stationary, Metal Sonic is able to
unleash and further distribute a field of electric discharge to harm any
opponents that are close to it.
In-game debut: Sonic CD, Sega Mega CD, 1993
(6). Shield Attack
Description: When Metal Sonic is traveling at top speed, it is able to
encompass its form in a yellow bubble-like barrier of energy that protects it
from harm, enabling it to crash through its enemies or anything in its way with
inconceivable impact power.
In-game debut: Sonic CD, Sega Mega CD, 1993
(7). Black Shield
Description: At will, Metal Sonic clams up in a fetal position and is
able to enshroud itself in a diamond-shaped shield of black energy, protecting
it from harm. However, it slows down dramatically in order to do it and has no
control over it's directional movement
In-game debut: Sonic Adventure 2: Battle 2-P mode, Nintendo GameCube,
2001
(8). Plasma Pulse
Description: Metal Sonic is able to fire a large and powerful,
pressurized blast of energy from the air intake compression chamber on its
stomach.
In-game debut: Knuckles' Chaotix, Sega Mega 32X, 1995
(9). Sonic Boom
Description: When pitted against another robot or someone whose skills
can't be copied by the ability listed below, Metal Sonic turns up the juice to
bust through the sound barrier and all in its way.
In-game ability: Sonic Rivals, Sony PlayStation Portable, 2006
(10). Copycat
Description: Metal Sonic uses this ability to copy the Signature Move of
his rival.
Appearance: Sonic Rivals, Sony PlayStation Portable, 2006
Aptitude
statistics:
(1). Metal Sonic is able to imitate Sonic's
abilities down to the very last detail, except even better. The advanced engine
of Metal Sonic is able to propel it at speeds that surpass even Sonic's.
(2). Although Metal Sonic just sinks in water, its
hardware and frame are both waterproof.
(3). Its advanced engine grants Metal Sonic the
ability to fly. It even hovers above the ground when in motion instead of
running.
(4). Is apparently a skilled driver, judging by its
driving skills in the 2nd annual Chaos Grand Prix.
Hardware
specs:
Main CPU: LIPS A.I. Eggman Chip; the head processor contains
3 maximum output links. The internal, FAGE-type CPU contains a system that is
capable of executing mathematical logical enactment and an analog
neuro-connection between all components.
Sub CPU: A Neo Super DFX Chip, containing a 5 link system
connecting to all major body components governs the power control system, while
a Next Risk Chip Series III, with 8 basic loading ports, utilizes RGB imaging
in the optical area.
Frame: Monocoque titanium manufacture.
Cowling: Enhanced blue metal tektite.
Primary Engine: 250cc, 4-valve Orgone Fusion Engine. The maximum
output is 55ps/6800 RPM, while the maximum torque is 7.54Kg-m/4000 RPM.
Secondary Engine: Tesla Power Coil, which produces
electricity through electro-magnetic induction. Its maximum output is 256kw.
Weaknesses:
No known weaknesses.
Physical
Appearance:
- Primarily dark blue color scheme
- Chrome-colored muzzle with large screws bolted into
the cheeks, silver arm partitions, and other accents
- Red, ovular ring-shaped eyes overlaid on black
glass-like sclera. Metal Sonic can illuminate the red 'irises' at will.
- 3 aerodynamic upright-pointing extrusions on the
head to represent Sonic's quills
- Large body area with a yellow air intake chamber
on the chest/stomach area while the back is the engine exhaust area
- Arms and legs have two points of articulation and
the first segment of each is but a simple chrome beam while the second segment
is a thick, cylindrical blue piece that starts at the knees/elbows
- Chrome shoulderpads
- Small, box-shaped black hands overlaid on the top
with a yellow accent, and five small, sharp-edged, blade-like fingers on each
hand
- Red, metal shoes that are completely flat at the
sole, accented with a horizontal white trim across the bottom area of the feet
— the shoes connect to the lower limbs via a thick cylinder of chrome that is
visible between both parts/halves of the feet
Items
& weapons:
(1). Laser Blaster
Description: Inside of Metal Sonic's body is a built-in laser blaster
that is able to fire laser beams out of the air intake chamber on its stomach.
It is probably governed by the Plasnar component implemented at the time of
Eggman's attempt to mount Newtrogic High Zone.
Appearance: Knuckles’ Chaotix, Sega 32X, 1995
Vehicle(s):
(1). The Blue Devil
Description: A sleek, stylized and very streamlined blue racecar that
Metal Sonic once used in the 2nd annual Chaos Grand Prix. The Blue Devil has an
even greater speed than Sonic's Cyclone but it has inferior handling and
requires more rings to pull-off its abilities.
Appearance: Sonic Drift 2, Sega Game Gear, 1995
Personality details:
The cutting-edge
technology that is Metal Sonic is undoubtedly the most formidable foe of
Sonic's. This metallic nightmare has always stood out as the greatest piece of
technology Dr. Robotnik has ever conjured out of that intricate mind — not only
because of its remarkable abilities and skills, but also because of its A.I.
capabilities, which have proved that the creator should always be careful.
Metal is so incredibly intelligent that at one point, it rebelled against
Eggman, which is when its personality began to really show.
Metal Sonic, in spite of the lifeless and apparent lack of a personality
it showed before its rebellion, is actually a very cold-hearted and dominative
sentient, traits that were deleted from him by his creator's own hand. But even
then, its original purpose held strong: Metal's ultimate desire is to finally
prove to Sonic that he is the better half and kill that damn hedgehog once and
for all. But all these times he has tried, Metal Sonic always fails in the end.
You just can't stack up to the real thing.
Historical
biography:
Metal Sonic was
created for the sole purpose to match skills with Eggman's nemesis, Sonic the
Hedgehog, and thus give him a taste of his own medicine, beating that pesky
hedgehog at his own meddling game. During Eggman's reign of the past of Little
Planet, Metal Sonic was also created to put a stop to that blasted hedgehog,
should he get any bright ideas to once again save the day. Eggman's
expectations were right on the mark, since once Sonic saw that Little Planet
was chained to a mountain that was embossed with none other than the mad
doctor's filthy mug, he immediately set out to replenish the micro-world to its
former state of beauty and grandeur.
Alas, Eggman had already taken over the past of Little Planet, ensuring
his dominance in the future… Sonic was too late. But this certainly didn't stop
the hedgehog from trying nonetheless. Upon making his way to the Collision
Chaos Zone, Sonic, for the second time encountered Amy Rose. What her tarot
cards DIDN'T predict was that right when she managed to see Sonic again, Metal
Sonic swooped in, grabbed Amy and took off with its new hostage. Sonic then
knew that it was his duty to save her.
Metal Sonic and Sonic made their final confrontation for the time being
at the Stardust Speedway Zone, where Sonic & Metal were pitted in a heated
race. In the end, Sonic's quick wit still managed to outdo the seemingly more
advanced metallic doppelganger. Once Sonic went flying past the final area, a
thick door burst down against the ground, and unfortunately for Metal Sonic, he
was going too fast to slow down in time, so there he went slamming headfirst
into the door and to its splatter of a demise. Sonic managed to save Amy at
that point and eventually stand back and watch Eggman's master plan fall in
ruins. But that was not the last of Metal Sonic, oh NO-SIR-REE.
Around the time of the Newtrogic High Zone episode, thereafter
retrieving the CPUs from the wrecked hide of Metal Sonic, Dr. Robotnik managed
to rejuvenate what was once his greatest creation, along with an additional
component enabling Metal to use the Plasma Pulse attack, which wasn't utilized
until later. The consolidated effort of Knuckles, Espio, Vector, Charmy, and
Mighty eventually led them to the final confrontation with Dr. Robotnik, which
arrived in the form of a final confrontation with Metal Sonic. In an attempt to
merge itself with the Newtrogic High Zone attraction selection system, Metal
managed to transform the entire system into a dangerous powerhouse of weapons
and booby traps in attempts to stop our heroes.
However, those aforementioned attempts proved futile, as it was once
again defeated. Metal Sonic's charred hide was just strong enough to go flying
back to its creator. Using the same Dark Ring technology used to first rebuild
Metal Sonic in the first place, Eggman turned Metal into a giant red monster of
a robot. Using its huge hands to perhaps squash our heroes and of course its
Plasma Pulse attack, the determined Metal Sonic fought hard to defeat its
opposition. But in the end, the impressive teamwork of Knuckles, Espio, Vector,
Charmy, and Mighty prevailed. Metal Sonic was once again defeated.
Other than the occasional recreational activity it participated in such
as Kart races, its attempts to stop Sonic from taking down the Death Egg II,
and its participation in the whole fiasco involving the three way race for the
emeralds between Eggman/Knuckles, Sonic/Tails, and Fang, Metal Sonic was
eventually stored away in a stasis tube alongside an apparent upgrade of Eggman's
other robotic version of Sonic, Mecha Sonic (also known as Silver Sonic). So
there Metal Sonic was, locked away and pretty much useless. It was at this time
Metal finally became fully self-aware and its complete and utter aversion for
Sonic motivated it to single-handedly defeat Sonic himself. For he was tired of
always being beaten by that blue hedgehog.
Metal Sonic escaped from its incarceration via the advanced AI in it's
AI chip, revealing it's incredibly egotistical side that compelled it to
reshape it's body and set out to seek new upgrades and power. To flavor his new
gimmick, he also upgraded to a much newer look named Neo Metal Sonic, complete
with a new shape to its spines; resembling the silhouette of a star with white
designs allover its forearms and head and long spikes on its cheeks along with
much more complex shoes and a more intricate body. And to top off his new look
of authority, over his back went a black, flowing cape. Metal Sonic had
literally become a self-aware, sentient rogue with but a single motive: kill
Sonic the Hedgehog.
Neo Metal Sonic managed to turn Dr. Robotnik's veritable army of robots
against their own creator and even lock Eggman himself in his own skyship
fortress. Neo Metal formed an elaborate plan to lure Sonic to the skyship to
destroy that hedgehog once and for all. During this time, Froggy and Chocola
were missing as well, which lured Amy, Big, and Cream to go hunting for them.
Turns out that since Chocola is a chao and since Froggy had once contained
Chaos' missing tail, the data they contained would benefit Neo Metal Sonic,
giving him the ability to turn into liquid metal and assume the shape of
others, just like Chaos. Neo Metal had lured Sonic by posing as Dr. Robotnik
and inviting him to stop his "ultimate weapon." The truth was, the
Eggman all of our heroes met during this little escapade was either a robotic
clone or Neo Metal Sonic himself posing as Eggman. The real Eggman was actually
locked in his own fortress, trying to get Vector, Charmy, and Espio to save
him!
By
the time the final confrontation had come along, Neo Metal Sonic retrieved data
from the world's most prestigious characters in terms of power: Sonic, Shadow,
and Chaos. Standing tall upon an antenna on the whale-shaped skyship, Neo Metal
struck upon himself a giant lightning bolt and performed a mind-blowing
transformation, assuming his ultimate form with the combined power of its own
upgraded abilities and the powers of Sonic, Shadow, and Chaos: the Metal
Overlord. But in the end, despite its remarkable efforts, the teamwork of Super
Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles managed to put an end Neo Metal Sonic's plan which
he worked so hard to accomplish. Aboard the skyship, there he was, on his hands
and knees, degrading back to his original form and asking why he could never
defeat Sonic.
After that
fiasco, Dr. Robotnik had taken it upon himself to restore it to being just an
obedient and loyal battle mecha by his own hand, erasing the egotistical part
of his AI chip and possibly his powerful sense of free will. Although he shows
up every now and again, he's still hoping for another chance to take down his
"loathsome copy". If there's one thing Metal shares in common with
Sonic it is this: giving up is NOT AN OPTION.

Personal
character analysis/commentary (by Nuclear Envoy):
Metal Sonic… you
know, there really isn't anybody that can actually find something stupid or
lame about this character. He's a robot and has no personality, so why hate
him? Many think that Sonic Heroes screwed Metal up big-time. Hey, as long as he
goes back to his original shape, which he did, I'm all good.
Back
when Sonic CD was first released, Metal Sonic was not a very well-known
character. Mostly because his debut title was a rather elusive one. In fact,
most titles Metal Sonic has starred in, with the mere exceptions of Sonic R and
Sonic Heroes, were all insanely rare. Sonic Adventure and Adventure 2 don't
count since most people gave up on the emblem hunt that it took to unlock his
butt. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle was the only other one and even it didn't do
Metal any justice. So, in other words, Sonic Heroes is mostly what made Metal
Sonic more famous these days. Whew, what a crappy game to make a character
famous, right? But in the end, Metal Sonic is singled out as Sonic's true most
formidable foe. Shadow and even Eggman just can't stack up to good ole' Metal.
What's cool about Metal Sonic is that he is pretty much the anti-Sonic.
Except he doesn't have a personality to benefit (or hinder) him. Well…
actually, now he does, apparently. Good thing it's not a real bad one. It's
actually what I expected of Metal Sonic should he have been given an actual
free will. Just not that… dominating. But he can actually outdo Sonic's speed
and puts a more intense focus on every skill of Sonic's that he is able to
emulate down to the last detail. Everything about Metal Sonic is cool down to
just… the way he looks and moves. Metal is also the best display of how
detailed Sega of Japan can actually be with their characters. All of the
hardware specs are official and they are actually true to the laws and aspects
of science. It's funny how Sega of Japan can think of an elaborate set of
hardware specs for Metal Sonic, but they can't give a sure-fire, undisputed
answer as to what planet Sonic comes from.
In
the end, Metal Sonic is probably the bad guy that Sega has put the most effort
into, save Shadow (if you still consider him bad). Everything about Metal is so
intricate and technical. Metal Sonic is also what contributes to Eggman's
popularity quite a lot as well. Eggman's the genius who made this bad boy of a
robot. Overall, there really is no bad guy that is more for Sonic than Metal
Sonic when it comes to abilities and speed, and if there will be, then let's
hope Sega still keeps Metal Sonic high up in the ranks. He has pretty much rose
to a classic status.
